Turbocharger bearings spin at speeds up to 300,000 RPM, creating extreme demands on engine oil. The oil must protect these bearings while cycling between temperatures exceeding 1000°C in the turbine housing and normal engine temperatures. This is why turbocharged engines require more frequent oil changes than naturally aspirated ones. Modern synthetic oils with advanced additives are specifically formulated to handle these rapid temperature swings and prevent bearing failure.
