Ship air lubrication

Ship air lubrication
Modern cargo ships can create a carpet of tiny air bubbles along their hull to reduce water friction. This "air lubrication" can cut fuel consumption by 5-15% on long voyages. The bubbles work like microscopic ball bearings between the ship and the water. Some new ships have dedicated air compressor systems built specifically for this friction-reducing technology.
