Elevator cable lubrication

Elevator cable lubrication
The steel cables that lift elevators in tall buildings contain lubricant woven directly into their core during manufacturing. This internal lubrication helps the cable wires slide smoothly against each other as they bend over pulleys thousands of times per day. Without proper lubrication, the constant flexing would cause internal friction and wear that could lead to cable failure. Some modern high-rise elevators travel over 1,000 feet and their cables require specialized lubricants that stay effective under extreme tension and temperature variations.
