Why Cold Torque Depends More on Base Oil Than Grease NLGI Grade

Many users overlook that cold torque depends more on base oil viscosity (oil thickness). NLGI (softness grade) shapes handling, but not the speed of oil release. In Nordic use, water and salt drive corrosion inside housings during slow runs. Choose grease that resists washout and still bleeds (oil release) under light load. Too frequent regreasing can churn, raise temperature, and push out additives. But long intervals let water stay trapped and pit rolling surfaces. Inspect purge (expelled grease) color and texture, not only grease hardness. An option with these traits is Calcium Sulfonate Complex EP2.
