Home treadmills need regular silicone-based lubrication between the belt and deck to prevent friction damage and motor strain. Without proper lubrication, the belt can wear out three times faster and the motor has to work much harder, increasing electricity costs. Most manufacturers recommend applying lubricant every three to six months depending on usage. Using the wrong type of oil, like WD-40 or petroleum-based products, can actually damage the belt and void the warranty.
