Shopping cart wheels face a surprisingly tough job, rolling across parking lots in rain, snow, and scorching sun while carrying loads up to 400 pounds. The grease used in their bearings must resist water washout and temperature extremes without dripping onto store floors. Many modern carts use sealed bearings with synthetic grease that can last for years without maintenance. Yet despite this engineering, wobbling wheels persist mainly because debris and hair wrapping around axles create more problems than the lubrication itself.
