Oil UV light detection

Oil UV light detection
Many lubricating oils glow bright yellow-green under ultraviolet light, a property used by mechanics to find hidden leaks. Special UV dyes are often added to refrigerant oils and transmission fluids to make leak detection even easier. A mechanic can shine a UV flashlight around an engine bay and immediately spot where oil is seeping out. This fluorescent property occurs naturally in some petroleum compounds and can reveal leaks invisible to the naked eye.
