A typical lawn mower engine holds less than half a liter of oil but spins at over 3,000 RPM while running much hotter than car engines due to air cooling. The oil must protect engine parts in extreme heat with minimal cooling assistance, which is why using the wrong oil can damage a mower in just one season. Small engines also lack oil filters, so the same oil must trap dirt and metal particles while lubricating, making regular oil changes especially critical for lawn equipment.
