Trumpet and trombone players use ultra-light valve oil that's much thinner than most lubricants. This special oil must work instantly when a valve is pressed, allowing musicians to play rapid notes at speeds exceeding 10 presses per second. Unlike heavier oils, valve oil evaporates relatively quickly, which is why musicians need to reapply it before each practice session.
